CARROLLTON, Ga. - The regular season is set to come to a conclusion as the UWG women's basketball team looks to clinch the fifth seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. To do that, UWG will have to wrap up the regular season with a win at North Alabama on Friday.
Tip-time is set for 7 p.m. as West Georgia (17-11, 10-7 ASUN) and North Alabama (15-13, 10-7 ASUN) square off with postseason seeding implications on the line. UWG will clinch the fifth seed with a win, and with a loss, would head to Jacksonville as the sixth or seventh seed, depending on the result of the FGCU and Stetson matchup on Friday.
North Alabama defeated UWG in The Coliseum back on February 11, in a game that saw the Lions roar out to a 21-6 start after one quarter, only for UWG to claw back and ultimately lose 65-60.
In that loss, UWG got 18 points from Grace O'Gara, who is one of five Wolves averaging double-figures against conference opponents. O'Gara is one of three who have scored at a higher clip in ASUN play, joined by Sydne Tolbert and Destiny Jones.
Tolbert leads the Wolves in conference-only scoring at 14.6 points per game, and is sixth in the league in that category while Jones scores 11.6 points per game through 17 ASUN games.
Asia Donald is UWG's overall leading scorer at 14.4 points per game and has four straight double-digit games and is 23 for her last 25 at the free throw line. Jasmine Jones also averages double-figures, scoring 13.6 points per game and ranks 10th in the nation in three-pointers per game, drilling 3.00 long range buckets per contest.
Back to Destiny Jones, where she leads the Wolves' rebounding efforts at 8.1 per game. The sophomore from Louisville has recorded seven double-doubles this season, bringing her career total to 16.
UNA is led by Alexsandra Alvarado, scoring at a 13.0 per game rate, although the UWG defense held her to just five points in the first meeting at The Coliseum. The Wolves could not contain Katie Criswell in that matchup as Criswell scored a game-high 22, knocking in four three-pointers in the process.
Tip-time is set for 7 p.m. EST from CB&S Bank Arena at Flowers Hall on the campus of North Alabama. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
